Joshua 6:2 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands.”

The story of how the walls of Jericho fell is a very well-known story in the Bible. Please read Joshua 6.

The Israelites have been walking in the scorching wilderness and comes face to face with the wall of Jericho. These walls were standing in between their journey to the promise land of Canaan.

The walls of Jericho were no ordinary walls. It was impassable and heavily fortified to the point where it would take several strengths of men, weapons, and great planning to take it down.

It was known to have double walls with one standing tall at over 10 feet and one way to enter would have been by destroying all the people inside.

No worldly methods could have been used to take it down, but instead, faith, obedience, courage, and patience had to be practiced by obtaining victory over Jericho.

Connecting the walls with our lives-

The Jericho walls can be applied as those forts and strongholds we have built for ourselves to cause a wedge against God. The walls that have emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually stripped us from experiencing real joy, forgiveness, and healing.

AN IMPENETRABLE WALL IS LIKE A PRISON CELL WITH NO DOOR OR WINDOW. It must crumble down for the ‘SON’ RAYS to penetrate in and brighten our lives.

 Breaking an impenetrable wall

Paul mentions in Gal. 5:19-21 some of these walls that cause a huge distance in our relationship with God :

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,

Uncleanness -promiscuity,

Lasciviousness -pornography,

Idolatry – relationships, work, social media, materialism

Witchcraft -magic and spells, believing in horoscopes

emulations -jealousy

wrath -outbursts of anger,

strife – friction

seditions – inciting rage against authority

murders, — wounding someone with your choice of words

reveling -wild parties/extreme drinking /bars

and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Are there walls of Jericho that hinder your relationship with the Lord? The walls of strong holds-

· Walls of lust and pornography that increasingly bring a wedge in your open walk with the Lord?

· Wall of bitterness that ruin your peace and sanity?

· Walls of secret and habitual sins that you can’t even get rid of despite several attempts?

· Walls of fear, and disdain that make you worry and hide away?

· Wall of cold, indifferent spirit that ignores the pain and needs of a fellow human?

· Wall of hatred, contempt and anger towards those who hurt you ,or don’t like you? OR

· the walls of prejudice towards those who sin differently and a ‘holier than thou’ reactions?

Personally, I have struggled with some of the walls mentioned above, and I know it has grieved my Lord. The Lord hates our sins, but absolutely and unconditionally loves us when we confess our sins.

So how do we break down these strong walls that have hindered our relationship with God?

1. See and acknowledge the walls in you:

The Israelites saw the wall of Jericho standing in the way of them reaching the promise Land. It is important to first acknowledge those walls within and in front of us.

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5,kjv.

For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing : for to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I find not. I want to do good, but it is the evil that I do. Romans 7 :18-19, KJV

2. Separate yourself from the people of Jericho/world :

Rahab, the prostitute found redemption because she chose to separate herself from Jericho. While we live in this world, we must choose to separate ourselves from sinful lifestyle.

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Colossians 3:5,7-8 ,kjv.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1.

3. Submit yourself to God’s command:

It was by faith that the walls of Jericho fell (Hebrews 11:30) ,but it was the Lord who commanded how to have those strong walls broken down. Without God, it is impossible to fight any of these battles we face on earth. His Word is our lifeline.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy Proverbs 28:13,kjv.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 ,kjv

4. Stand victorious with God:

We must always remember that we are triumphant in Christ Jesus. Jesus won the victory over death and sin. Sin may try to seek entry in deceptive ways, but it can never have dominion over us. Shout praises to the Lord of Lords when temptations try to come your way. Be an alert soldier wearing the full armor of God.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17, kjv

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:14, kjv

The blessing God gave Rahab was that she  had her name in the genealogy of Christ Jesus. Allow God into these impenetrable walls of sin in your life today. Only He can breach into these forts once and for all and bring God’s amazing shining rays in our lives.

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3,kjv

How to Break down he Strong walls in your life

Reflection :

God wants us to put our faith on Him and live a repentant life, so that He can use us to break down those fortified walls.

God is stronger than all the walls we have built, and has a better plan for us.

—Which of these walls do you need to tear down today?

I am a daughter, sister, wife, and mom to my triplets. Each of these God given roles have shaped me to be the woman I am today. My blog is about how I have found God to be alive in me through the lessons I keep on learning each day. Through the storms and songs in the darkest hour I saw God standing with me.
Christianity is not a religion to me but a personal relationship I have with my Creator who so freely gave His life for me .
Dear Friend, I pray that you too will know this Savior who died not only for your SINS but also for all your SORROWS on the Cross. May you be found in HIM.

Philippians 3:14 (KJV) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

  1. I have to ask the Lord all the time if there is something in me that needs to go. One thing I’m afraid of is to think I’m doing good and be so totally deceived, you know what I mean? I have to just ask the Lord constantly and let Him cleanse me. He is such a good God! So loving and trustworthy! Thank you for your beautiful post! XO Donna

    1. Hey Donna, I know exactly what you mean. There are times when I think this is not wrong and then I wonder what if I am causing a lot of grief to the Lord . Hence I pray Lord forgive me of the sins I do unknowingly

  2. Yes. Only the power of God can destroy our strongholds. I’ve struggled with some of the things you listed but glory to God for giving me the victory. I’m no longer bound by them. Sometimes all we need to do is simply obey God’s instructions.

  3. Thank you for this encouraging post. These tips are very helpful! I think the most helpful one is the acknowledging the walls and strongholds. You can’t fix or tear down something you aren’t willing to face.

  4. Dianna, such an incredible post! I love the depth you went into explaining what the walls can look like in our life and how to break them down. Thanks for writing this all out for us… so so good!

  5. I’m so thankful for your posts and “meeting” a like-minded blogger! You’ve been on my heart this morning. I am praying your triplets are well and you have much strength dear friend!

  6. So much truth in your words. Often the biggest wall is recognizing there is one; I am too often blind to what is keeping me from God. How thankful I am for His patience and willingness to never give up on me.

  7. Thank you for all the insight. My realization of how i respond to my elderly mother needs more prayer. It is so hard to keep a Christian attitude when she is so negative and hurtful.

    1. I am so sorry to hear about your experiences with your mother. But at the same time I know that the Lord will bless your hands for taking care of her . Repeat some scriptures every morning and I hope it will help you not break down .

  8. Hi Diana, everyone should read your post. I was taken by the definitions or wrath and it is possible to murder someone with words. Until recently, I had not heard of such thing as “witchcraft ” prayers, which are an attempt to control someone when God gives them a free will. Now, I pray for people to come to know His love.

    1. I am so blessed by your comment. I sincerely hope many will be able to free themselves from these strong holds in their lives . Thank you for stopping by 🙂
