HOW TO BREAK DOWN THE STRONG WALLS
The story of how the walls of Jericho fell is a very well-known story in the Bible. Joshua 6 gives us a picture how it is particularly important to break down strong walls that we have erected in our lives.
Joshua 6:2 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands.”
The Israelites have been walking in the scorching wilderness and comes face to face with the wall of Jericho.
These walls were standing in between their journey to the promise land of Canaan.
The walls of Jericho were no ordinary walls. It was impassable and heavily fortified to the point where it would take several strengths of men, weapons, and great planning to take it down.
It was known to have double walls with one standing tall at over 10 feet and one way to enter would have been by destroying all the people inside.
No worldly methods could have been used to take it down, but instead, faith, obedience, courage, and patience had to be practiced by obtaining victory over Jericho.
Connecting with the strong walls with our lives-
The Jericho walls can be applied as those forts and strongholds we have built for ourselves to cause a wedge against God.
The walls that have emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually stripped us from experiencing real joy, forgiveness, and healing.
AN IMPENETRABLE WALL IS LIKE A PRISON CELL WITH NO DOOR OR WINDOW.
It must crumble down for the ‘SON’ RAYS to penetrate in and brighten our lives.
Paul mentions in Gal. 5:19-21 some of these walls that cause a huge distance in our relationship with God :
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication,
Uncleanness -promiscuity,
Lasciviousness -pornography,
Idolatry – relationships, work, social media, materialism
Witchcraft -magic and spells, believing in horoscopes
hatred-hostility,
variance-strife,
emulations -jealousy
wrath -outbursts of anger,
strife – friction
seditions – inciting rage against authority
heresies
Envying,
murders, — wounding someone with your choice of words
drunkenness,
reveling -wild parties/extreme drinking /bars
and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Are there walls of Jericho that hinder your relationship with the Lord?
The walls of strong holds-
Walls of lust and pornography that increasingly bring a wedge in your open walk with the Lord
Wall of bitterness that ruin your peace and sanity
Walls of secret and habitual sins that you can’t even get rid of despite several attempts
Walls of fear, and disdain that make you worry and hide away
Strong Wall of cold, indifferent spirit that ignores the pain and needs of a fellow human
Wall of hatred, contempt and anger towards those who hurt you ,or don’t like you OR
the walls of prejudice towards those who sin differently and a ‘holier than thou’ reactions
the wall of racism where you mistreat your fellow human race based on color.
The Lord hates our sins, but absolutely and unconditionally loves us when we confess our sins.
So how do we break strong walls that have hindered our relationship with God?
1. SEE and acknowledge the walls in you:
The Israelites saw the wall of Jericho standing in the way of them reaching the promise Land. It is important to first acknowledge those walls within and in front of us.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5,kjv.
For I know that in me (that is in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing : for to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I find not. I want to do good, but it is the evil that I do. Romans 7 :18-19, KJV
2.SEPARATE yourself from the people of Jericho/world :
Rahab, the prostitute found redemption because she chose to separate herself from Jericho. While we live in this world, we must choose to separate ourselves from sinful lifestyle. This is the second step on how to break down strong walls from our lives.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Colossians 3:5,7-8 ,kjv.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1.
3.SUBMIT yourself to God’s command:
It was by faith that the walls of Jericho fell (Hebrews 11:30) ,but it was the Lord who commanded how to have those strong walls broken down. Without God, it is impossible to fight any of these battles we face on earth. His Word is our lifeline.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy Proverbs 28:13,kjv.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 ,kjv
4. STAND victorious with God:
We must always remember that we are triumphant in Christ Jesus. Jesus won the victory over death and sin. Sin may try to seek entry in deceptive ways, but it can never have dominion over us. Shout praises to the Lord of Lords when temptations try to come your way. Be an alert soldier wearing the full armor of God.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17, kjv
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:14, kjv
The blessing God gave Rahab was that she had her name in the genealogy of Christ Jesus.
Allow God into these impenetrable walls of sin in your life today. Only He can breach into these forts once and for all and bring God’s amazing shining rays in our lives.
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3,kjv
Reflection :
God wants us to put our faith on Him and live a repentant life, so that He can use us to break down those fortified walls.
God is stronger than all the walls we have built, and has a better plan for us.
—Which of these walls do you need to tear down today?
—How can I pray for you today?
I love reading and responding to your comments, so do not hesitate to leave me a message.
Remember “THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD“-
Next week, I will be writing about how these walls could be a result of generational patterns and 5 ways to have victory over generational strongholds.

January 10, 2018 at 12:21 amI have to ask the Lord all the time if there is something in me that needs to go. One thing I’m afraid of is to think I’m doing good and be so totally deceived, you know what I mean? I have to just ask the Lord constantly and let Him cleanse me. He is such a good God! So loving and trustworthy! Thank you for your beautiful post! XO Donna

January 10, 2018 at 12:25 amStrong walls are broken down through true repentance and cleansing from Christ, and He replaces our wrong desires with a desire for more of Him.

January 10, 2018 at 7:38 amAmen Susan. We need to constantly confess our sins before the Lord otherwise wrong desires will creep up

May 8, 2018 at 12:54 amLove this Diana! I especially appreciated the point about Rahab separating herself from Jericho- being in the world but not belonging to it. I’ve been certainly had my own set of strongholds in my life. Thankful for God’s tender care of me, and His help in tearing down some of the most difficult! 🙂

August 21, 2018 at 9:09 amI’ve rec ntly broken out with the itchiest rash I’ve every experienced. It’s in 4 areas on my body and I have to take antihistamines to control the itch. I want jesus to take this from me and I will pray and ask for Hom to show me my strongholds. Could you pray for me?

August 21, 2018 at 12:50 pmHi Kathy, sorry you are experiencing horrible itch on your body. I have experienced that. Please do get a check up with an allergy specialist as well. Our body immediately notifies when it is allergic to something that is from outside. We are God’s beautiful creation. Praying that the Lord will reveal everything that has been a stronghold that comes from the outside of His destiny for you. Stay healthy
