Motherhood

The One Powerful Prayer for every Christian Parent

I am not a singer, even though I love to sing. Yet, I decided to sing in front of a huge crowd few weeks ago for a special occasion . A quick prayer was essential while standing in front of the crowd knowing fully well that I have never sang in front of a crowd for more than a decade.

I had picked a meaningful hymn with a chorus and 3 stanzas, but I just couldn’t hit the right notes at the right time.

Somehow, I finished the song and ran towards my chair with my head covered hoping to never ever sing again in public. My toddlers whispered, “Mama, you sing song?”

I heard and learned a lesson

Couple of days later, I was in the room with my 3-year-old triplets, and I saw them holding a spoon each as if to mimic a microphone singing a familiar hymn. The very hymn I sang in public, and the very hymn I never wanted to sing again.

My heart was filled with joy because it was the very song I wished I didn’t ruin or ever sing out loud. Having only practiced  twice in the room while my children were playing with their toys they surprised me.

I didn’t know my toddlers would learn that song without me teaching them. “Mama, you sing good” they echoed together.

 Prayer of Christian parent

The prayer and lesson I learned from my children :

My children love to imitate me in everything I do and say!

Mamas, we don’t necessarily have to teach our children everything because many things they pick up on their own.

I didn’t have to sit and teach them those 3 stanzas, they learned by just watching me sing. I held my head high and sang my heart out with them in the room.

My real audience is my children, they didn’t care if I hit the high notes or followed the music well.  They simply saw their mama smiling and singing in front of a huge crowd.

They have now begun to imitate how I react to stressful situation, and how I underline my Bible with colorful pens, and even how I pray.

Sometimes I fear if they will imitate only my worse behaviors.

The powerful prayer I learned to pray that night was – Jesus, I pray most earnestly that my children will imitate me imitate YOU!

Prayer for A Christian Parent to pray every day

Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father] Ephesians 5:1, AMP

Let this be our one prayer for our children that they will imitate us imitating Jesus. The way Jesus talked, walked, showed compassion to everyone, loved sinners and hated sin.

As parents, may we have a great relationship with our children just like our Heavenly Father had with His SON JESUS.

Let us pray that ultimately we will point our children back to the ONE who created them wonderfully and fearfully.

Dear Reader, this prayer is for you as well to pray for your biological and spiritual children today.

Heavenly Father, thou hast placed me on this earth to be a witness for You, so here I am at the altar bringing my request and supplication.

This is my prayer Jesus, that my children will imitate me imitating YOU.

As I raise godly children for God’s Kingdom, I pray that my priority be about imitating your Love and care for the perishing souls and compassion for the helpless.

I pray I stand in the gap for my children despite my struggles, and be an overcomer in Christ.

May my walk be in love, my talk be about Jesus, and my life be all about pointing my children to Christ.

Jesus, everything you did on this earth was about Your “Father’s House”. So l pray that my children will imitate me striving to glorify Your Name.

May my lips be filled with praise, and my actions be complete with the fruit of the Spirit for my children to watch and follow.

In the most powerful and Holy name of Lord Jesus Christ I humbly pray. Amen

How did this post resonate with you today? What lesson have your children taught you?

Is there a prayer you utter for your children?

Praying for my children has been on my heart more and more as they get older. It is so important to start praying for our kids when they are little so we are in that habit when they desperately need our prayers in the teen/adult years. I love your heart and your prayers for your children. Thank you for sharing:) Love, Rachael @ Inking the Heart

Your blog is beautiful, Diana, and the fonts so dark and big: quite easy to read. This post hits home because children learn by example. We can’t go wrong if they are copying us steadfastly following the Lord. ❤️

Beautiful prayer Diana! We have the duty to teach our children but our most impactful lesson to them is our own personal walk of faith! May we be faithful in imitating our precious and perfect Lord and Savior.

I’m visiting from the LiveFree community. This is so beautiful, Diana — and so true! There is no greater tool for bringing our children to Christ, than that of LIVING BY EXAMPLE. If we can’t show them the truth and power behind God’s transforming work in the heart of a Christian, our testimony is lost. Thank you for sharing this. You’re a GREAT mom!

I distinctly recall this with my own children, and now I’m seeing that my grandson copies his dad flawlessly — in both the admirable and the not-so-great qualities. It was the same for me, and it kept me ever on my knees. Still does.
