Battles we face, Chapter/Verse Meditation

3 ways to apply Matthew 11:28 to overcome fear and worry

It was 6pm in New York and my phone rang. As I was about to pick up my call, I glanced at my phone screen. It was a call from my dad, but it was 3 am in India.  “Are my parents okay? “I wondered. So, I answered the call and my dad asked me if I had called him two hours ago. When I told him, that I must have accidently dialed the phone, he asked again if we are all okay. His voice sounded as if he woke up suddenly from his sleep to check his phone.

During this pandemic, it is natural for a father to worry when he sees a miscall from his daughter who resides in New York- where the virus is spreading in great numbers.

I shared with my sister  who is a nurse in Ireland that dad had called suddenly, and we talked about how he must be thinking of us day and night.

It is an overwhelming season of all us across the globe right now.

Our Father’s love and Matthew11:28 to overcome fear and worry

A parent always worries about their children and so does every human in this world. Our worries and anxieties should not take us as a prisoner.

Our Heavenly Father certainly knows how we worry for the lives of our dear ones and carry a huge burden in our heart. Jesus wants us to apply Matthew 11:28 to overcome fear and worry that has taken over  our lives

Jesus says  “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls.” Matthew 11:28 ;29

“Weak though I am, yet through His might, I all things can perform.” Charles Spurgeon

Here are 3 absolute ways to apply Matthew11:28 to overcome fear and worry

1.  ACCEPT CHRIST’S INVITE :

‘Come to me’ is the personal invitation the Lord gives us.

To come to Jesus means we must let go of everything else!

Our Lord wants us to give our worries , our burdens to Him. He wants us to lean on Him and learn of Him. He promises to be our Father who cares for us when are afraid.

Job 10:12 You have granted me life and favor, And Your care has preserved my spirit.

God who created our bodies so marvelously adds the gift of life to live on this earth and beyond. Amen?

But immediately Jesus spoke “Don’t be afraid, Take courage. It is I. Matt 14:27

2. Learn to cast off completely

More than once, I have taken dirty clothes in my hamper to my basement when I do my laundry only to realize that I have walked back with that heavy  bag upstairs cluelessly.

To cast means to throw our worries like a fisherman who throws his heavy net into the farthest distance with all our strength and energy.

It means never to bring it back with us after giving it to the Lord.

Nets are usually dirty, messy, heavy, and tangled up.

How has your life been lately? Have we let go of our burdens wholly and willingly?

Roll all your messes, and fears upon our Lord.

3.Rest in His promise and deliverance:

AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST is the promise no one else can ever fulfil except Christ.

Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

Our rest lies in looking to the Lord, not to ourselves – Watchman Lee.

Return to Christ and find rest for your weary souls. To find rest in Jesus means to quieten our racing thoughts and replace them with God filled thoughts.

Find rest in Christ, O restless heart!

Come unto Me, only Me, He lovingly bids,

Unburden yourself today, and do not ever depart.

Lean on  Me, Learn of Me, He gently whispers ;

Be hopeful, restful, In Jesus forever set apart.    ~ Diana
