WHY DO WE LOCK OUR DOORS?

The other day I forgot to lock my front door while in a hurry to drop my kids to school.

So, I had to make a turn and come back to lock the house.

My triplets noticed this and asked me why we always lock the car door when we are driving or even the front door of our house.

I thought it was an interesting question and told them we have very important things in our home and so we do not want robbers to come and take anything precious including our children.

Have you noticed that robbers don’t prefer to rob from an empty run-down house? Why? There is no treasure there.

Satan knows who belongs to JESUS and is therefore walking to and fro ENTER ILLEGALLY. 

If you have been under spiritual attack from this Enemy, then now is the time to set guard and watch over some individual areas of our lives.

Have you kept a watch over your life lately?

The Greek word gregoreuo in the Strong’s Concordance means “watch,” “to keep awake,” “be vigilant,”, “be watchful.”

This word, gregoreuo, comes from word number 1453 which is egeiro, which means “to waken from sleep, sitting or lying, from disease, from death, from inactivity,” etc.

This should give us a clear idea on why we are called to be alert as a Christian and to watch over.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING WATCHFUL

As believers we must know that God , Himself has asked us to be watchful till the end .

Mark 13:37 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

Matthew 26:41 –Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Secondly, God , Himself is our Watchman. He has set an example for us to imitate.

Psalm 127: 1 Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

Just like we will do everything in our power to guard over our wealth, our children, our families, our properties; we must make every effort to watch over these personal areas as a Christian woman.

A woman of God who is vigilant keeps her mind alert from the attacks of the Devil and fills herself with spiritual manna.

1.WATCH OVER OUR HEART AND MIND

Proverbs 4:23, KJV  Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil

Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth

 

2.WATCH OVER OUR SOUL DILIGENTLY

Joshua 23: 13 Now, vigilantly guard your souls: Love God, your God.

Proverbs 22:5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; he who guards his soul will be far from them.

Proverbs 16 : 17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil ; he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. 

3.WATCH OVER OUR MOUTH

Psalm 37: 30, 31 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment…

Matthew 12: 34 for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

Proverbs 16:23 The heart of the wise man instructs his mouth and adds persuasiveness to his lips.

 

4.GUARD AND WATCH OVER OUR CHRISTIAN FAITH –

1 John 5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

1 Corinthians 2:5 ,ESV That your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

1 Timothy 1 :19 Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession before many witnesses.

 

5.WATCH OVER OUR STEPS

Ephesians 5:15 Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise;

1 Samuel 2:9 He guards the steps of His faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness; for by his own strength shall no man prevail.

Psalms 37:23 , NIV The LORD directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

Psalm 1:1 NIV Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,

6.WATCH OVER OUR EYES

Matthew 7:3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

Psalm 101: 3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes

Psalm 119: 37 Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.

Matthew 6:22-23 The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.

7.DEVOTE AND BE VIGILANT IN PRAYER LIFE –

Christ set the greatest example of watching in prayer.

Luke 6: 12 It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God.

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Romans 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

1 Peter 4:7 the end of all things is near. Therefore, be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.  

A watchful Christian is one who watches over the words that comes out of her mouth, tone of her voice. She is careful about her actions, her inner thoughts, the uprising of her spirit, and the choices she makes based on what she saw with her eyes. It is on her knees that she fights her battles daily.

Amen?

 We have a resurrected Savior who has overcome every one of Satan’s attacks.
