Chapter/Verse Meditation, Names of God, Psalms and Proverbs

3 Powerful Names of God before facing the battles of life

Every Christian must face the reality that she is on the battlefield while on this earth. The Enemy has encamped outside our heart and our lives hoping to enter our lives. Our personal /private life, our marriages, and our children are susceptible to Satan’s attacks every single day. Have we reclaimed and pasted the Names of God before facing battles?

In the past years, I had allowed my past traumas and phobias to take over my life and make myself vulnerable to the traps instead of being an alert soldier.

No more fear -for as I long as I hold on to the very names of God before facing any battle, I know the Enemy will think twice before bombarding.

How should a Christian soldier prepare before entering the battle ground?

My meditation for this post comes from Psalm 20. It is a prayer about trusting in the Names of God before the outbreak of the war.

You see, my friend, we must PREPARE BEFORE the battle  and NOT during or after the war.

I used to wonder why God allowed tragedies and nightmares to happen in my life.  This Psalm clearly reminds us that through our trials we become a comfort for others.

No one in this world is exempt from pain and sorrows, but we must be a prayer warrior for others who are going through the battles of life right now.

Psalm 20 is divided into three parts

1-4 verses: Prayer for the success before the battle

5-7 verses: Unwavering trust in the Lord during the battle

8- 9 : Victory after the battle

With God we can face our giants, just like young David pick up those stones and get ready for the battle.

We will proclaim out loud the names of God even when we know that the Enemy has set a camp on our life.

Even when the enemy is out there screaming and roaring every single day challenging us to fight back. Let us never forget that the name of God will sustain and protect us.

These intimate and powerful names of God plant our feet on a higher ground far away from the tensions of life.  God will avenge those who persecute us and deliver us from our enemies.

Say it out loud -The Lord will fight for my battles, I will put on the full armor of God and face every principality, every demonic attack in the name of the Lord.

It is only when we pay close attention to the names of God in this passage from Psalm 20 that we realize God’s power over every raging situations in our lives.

THE NAMES OF GOD BEFORE FACING BATTLES

I pray that you will hold on to these 3 specific and mighty names of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray it over your personal life, over your broken marriage, over your struggles as a parent, the pains caused by an illness or close friend.

1.Christ is my Defender

MAY THE NAME OF THE GOD OF JACOB DEFEND YOU. PSALM 20: 2

When we come face to face with the Enemy who is hurling abusive words at us, we must call upon this name of God- Jehovah El- Elyon to come forth and defend us.

Satan is known to be the accuser of brethren, and his only aim is to bring all our faults to the Lord.

Day and night without break, the devil walks to and fro to see who he can devour.

Psalm 119:114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your Word.

Christ my defender be thou our hiding place until the calamity moves away and be our shield against every darts thrown at us.

You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man; You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. Psalm 31:20.

2. Christ is my Banner

IN THE NAME OF OUR GOD WE WILL SET UP OUR BANNERS – PSALM 20: 5

Jehovah-Nissi -Jehovah my banner, was the title given by Moses to the altar he erected on the hill on the top of which he stood with lifted hands while Israel won over their enemies the Amalekites ( Exodus 17:15 )

Let us lift our hands in prayer and thanksgiving knowing fully well that the Lord will fight our battles for us.

May we lift Jesus our banner who was raised as an ensign for the Gospel gathering many souls to Himself by claiming victory over hell.

Let our adversary see that we are holding the very name of God as we march towards the battle.

When our hands are raised up in prayers standing in the gap for our loved ones , we are proclaiming that Christ is the flag of victory to our Enemy.

Charles Spurgeon quotes this about waving the banner , “ We lift the standards of defiance in the face of the foe, and wave the flag of victory over the fallen adversary”

You have given your loyal followers a rallying flag, so that they might seek safety from the bow. Psalm 60:4 (NET BIBLE VERSION)

Christ is my Deliverer

SOME TRUST IN CHARIOTS, AND SOME IN HORSES;

BUT WE WILL REMEMBER THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD PSALM 20:7

It is very important that as children of God our boast must be in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and not on any earthly objects.

The horses (wealth, education, family) that we possess may look strong, but it is the delivering name of God that is the strongest.

The war is real, and it will create a disturbance in our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual well -being.

This name of God can deliver us from the raging storms of our life

Christ can repair and heal us even when we believe we are irreparable.

Psalm 116 says that God hears our prayers, pleas, and delivers us from all our worries and cares.

If you are in an incredibly stressful situation, God will take u from that location and place u elsewhere until that storm has passed. I pray you believe with your whole heart that God will deliver you.

PRAYER

Before I end this post, I would like to pray this Psalm 20 over you :

How are you preparing to face the battles with these names of God?

Although I disagree that God will take us out of every stressful situation (sometimes He needs us there for bigger picture things), I took a great deal of encouragement from your post. Myself and so many friends are struggling with hard things and the reminders of who God is and what He does for us are so timely. Thank you. Hey Lauren, God is a deliverer , and how He takes us out from situation is not how we picture . It could be that He can physically remove us right away or even 10 years later. Sometimes He allows healing as deliverance in different ways . But there is deliverance for sure . This is coming from a person who experienced abuse in her life . The abuse happened but deliverance from bondage happened as well decades later 🙂 I pray you and your amazing friend will experience this as well. He never left us even when the world abandoned us . Much blessings and hugs to you

Diana, I want you to know how empowering and timely this was for me. Spiritual warfare is such an important topic, which makes it such a shame that so few churches cover it. Thank you for sharing your heart with your readers and reminding us the power in declaring the name.

It is pretty foolish to try to get battle-ready when we’re already in the battle, isn’t it! Yet, that is exactly what we sometimes try to do. Instead, as you’ve said so well, we need to prepare and stay battle-ready all the time. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Lord for not giving up on me. You rised me up so I can stand on mountains, you raised me up to walk the stormy sea. I am strong when I am on your shoulders…I sing this and He alone is worthy. Thank you Lord for this knowledge.
