Sly Devil – 3 ways to avoid being deceived like Eve
I have been teaching my toddlers about the Creation, and how the Devil deceived the first woman. It takes a special craft to even deceive someone, and in this post, we are going to see how we can prevent being deceived by anyone including Satan.
We read in Genesis chapter 2 and verse 15-17 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
The death that is mentioned here is referring to the spiritual death and the distance that will form between a Holy God and sinful man if man ate from the forbidden tree
Eve, the first woman was created as a companion for Adam after the instructions were given to the man. I believe Adam must have discussed with his wife about the rule Yahweh had commanded to man, and it shows in Genesis 3:2 how Eve did repeat those statements to the sly Devil.
As I studied Genesis chapter 3 in depth, my eyes were opened to the disguise this sly devil took to deceive Eve inside God’s garden.
Sly Satan
Satan’s FIRST question to Eve (Note: who perhaps was alone in the garden) was Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden? When Eve replied that the Lord did say “You shall not touch , nor eat, lest you die”,
Satan’s SECOND sentence to her reply was “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. (Genesis 3:4,5).
Did you see how the devil didn’t come wearing some big sharp horns, or sharp teeth to trick our first mother, Eve?
We can also notice that Eve received this serpent without any fear and without any armor of God on her. I wonder if Satan knew how Eve adored all the animals and he decided that day to take the best camouflage of a talking serpent to trick her.
The devil knew exactly what the Lord had commanded then and now. It has been the sly Devil’s schema to twist God’s truth and deceive it Christians as a better offer.
# Have we compromised to God’s Word even slightly?
# Are we simply happy to listen to the preacher only on a Sunday?
# Do we tend to get easily deceived by flattery, and receive Satan without any guard?
Be informed :
As women of God, it is very important that we read, meditate, and study the Word of God in depth to give a ready reply to anyone who questions our faith and hope in the Lord Jesus.
1 Peter 3:15, 16a (NIV) But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience.
Satan will make sure to take all the disguises that are pleasing to our eyes to sneak into our lives and create chaos, so let us be aware!

Here are 3 ways to avoid being deceived by the sly Devil just like our first mother, Eve was tricked :
1.BY STUDING GOD’S ABSOLUTE TRUTH :
Eve allowed the serpent deceive here and she didn’t stop herself and consult with God first. The Bible says God is the Truth, and the light ;by having an intimate relationship with our Maker we can prevent the disguiser from tricking us. Walk and talk with Jesus on a regular basis before talking to the devil.
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel ; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11: 13-14,KJV)
2. BY AVOIDING SELF-DECEIT :
It is so important that we are not puffed up by our own wisdom and self glory. 1 Corinthians 3:18-19 says that the wisdom of this world is foolishness. Eve blindly trusted in her own strength to withstand the sly Devil and paid the price.
The meaning of Eden in Hebrew means “DELIGHT”, do not let the sly Devil cost you your own Eden today Let us humble ourselves ,and learn from God because HE will guide the meek in judgment, and teach HIS way. Psalm 25:9.
3. BY BEING STEDFAST IN OUR FAITH :
We must be able to recognize false biblical doctrines to not get swayed easily, for that it is important to stand firm on the solid foundation of God’s Word.
“In the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.(1Timothy 4:1-2 )
Remember, Adam and Eve both had sinned, but it was only Eve who was deceived by the sneaky Satan.
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.(1 Timothy 2:14.)
Ponder :
- How did this post speak to you today?
- How is Satan still deceiving women of God these days?
Do comment and share if this post spoke to you today, so that it will be a blessing to others as well.
Next week, I will be writing about the 4 P’s Christians need to guard themselves from the sneaky Satan.
Until we meet again here,

September 13, 2017 at 8:43 amSo true Kelly and Diana. This really resonated with me today, how often do we NOT take that pause to seek the Lord’s council. The Lord is our GPS and Google, He needs to be our first go to for any answers or concerns.

September 12, 2017 at 7:50 pmYes, it is so critical that we avoid deception in every way possible. We all have so many blind spots and many of them we could break through if we would be more intentional about seeking truth. Thanks for sharing this, Diana.

September 13, 2017 at 2:14 pmYes Diana,
If we don’t stay prayed up and in our word we are susceptible to the schemes of the devil. He entices us and whispers sweet lies which cause us to let our guard down. This post has inspired me to be more intentional about having my armor in place. Eve was led by emotion instead of listening to God’s commands. Great lesson for me!
Diana
September 15, 2017 at 7:14 amHow I am encouraged by your comments, Natalie 🙂 Let us stand together and pray for one another as women of God to withstand the schemes of the Devil. You are a blessing

September 13, 2017 at 2:30 pmSatan is sly! I think one of His biggest tactics for Christians is getting us to believe that something is from God when it is not. That is why we definitely need to be alert and in prayer! Great post! I’m visiting from By His Grace Bloggers

September 13, 2017 at 8:34 pmI loved this post. I agree that as women of God we need to be vigilant in reading and meditating on the word of God. Deception is not always plain to see. The enemy is good at disguise.

September 15, 2017 at 12:53 pmIt has always been interesting to me that Satan twisted God’s command in the question he initially asked Eve. He asked if God had commanded them not to eat of ‘every’ tree in the garden, when God had commanded them not to eat of only ‘one tree’. I believe this was a sly way to make God look as though he were denying them of every tree.
